Realistically, I think we can expect 2023 to be a tough year for some. Demand amongst middle income earners is likely to be suppressed by a mix of rising inflation and uncertainty around the housing market, and that will have a disproportionate impact on the mainstream PVC-U sector.

By contrast, I think the aluminium sector will hold up much better – just because the kind of affluent, aspirational homeowners who tend to choose aluminium will inevitably be more sheltered from the cost-of-living crisis.

If anything, it might just be the tipping point that lots of PVC-U companies need to venture into aluminium for the first time – whether that’s fabricators looking to buy in from a reliable supplier rather than spending time and resources setting up for themselves, or installers finally adding aluminium windows, sliders and bifolds to their portfolio.
