French Doors With Sidelights

Introduction

Here at AluFold, we’re extremely proud of our aluminium French doors. We work closely with architects, specifiers, installers and homeowners to make bespoke French doors and our staff have years of experience to draw upon. One debate that comes up occasionally is whether French doors are better with or without sidelights.

To be honest, there’s no wrong answer. There are people who love the increased light and warmth that comes with adding sidelights to a French door, but there are also those who prefer the more traditional look. If you do decide to include sidelights with your French doors, here are several advantages.

Extra Light

This goes without saying, but sidelights will increase the brightness of your home. A small amount of extra glazing goes a long way and when the sun hits them, you’ll notice a remarkable difference. Our French doors include large glass panels and sidelights can improve them even further.

Greater Sense Of Space

All that additional glass makes your home feel more open, and consequently, larger. It won’t actually be any more spacious if you don’t include sidelights, but they can do wonders for the atmosphere in the room. The increased daylight can reduce claustrophobia and improve your mental health. If the inside of your house seems stuffy or enclosed, sidelights can greatly improve it.

Benefits Of Double Glazing

There is a misconception that the more windows a home has the more vulnerable it is to heat loss. Our aluminium French doors come with double glazing as standard, and can even be upgraded to triple glazing if requested. This offers exceptional thermal efficiency and means your home will stay warm and comfortable, even in the depths of winter.

Additionally, double glazing is tougher and more resilient than old-fashioned, single-pane windows. It’ll resist severe weather conditions and unwanted intruders alike. There’s also nothing to worry about if your children are keen sportsmen and tend to practice cricket outside. If you’re reluctant to install sidelights because you think it’ll make your home more vulnerable, put those doubts aside.

That being said, we have a few traditionalists among our staff who prefer French doors without sidelights. Whichever side of the debate you fall on, we can help with your next project.
