Introduction
French doors are a great addition to the home. They’re a perfect choice if you want to create a charming entrance onto a balcony, garden or patio, and there’s a certain spring freshness about them. We’ve noticed though that sometimes, homeowners can be worried about how secure they are.
The good news is that modern French doors are designed to keep you safe. If you order any from AluFold, they’ll be made to very exact standards and won’t be a weak spot that potential intruders can exploit. If you want to ensure your new French doors are safe though, how can you be certain? Let’s take a closer look.
Potential Vulnerable Points
French doors seem more vulnerable than other doors because they’ve got so much glass in them. This means there’s no way to install locks where they’d be out of reach, so someone could potentially break the glass, put their hand through the gap and unlock the door from outside.
Additionally, the point where the doors meet in the middle is a possible weak spot. You may be concerned that a determined intruder could kick them in. As they open outwards, we’ve also had customers ask about the hinges. After all, they’ll be exposed to the outside world, so anyone could just remove them if they had the correct tools, couldn’t they?
Putting Minds At Ease
Whilst we understand these worries, we’d like to reassure you that our aluminium French doors are a lot safer than you might think. They’re fitted with toughened safety glass as standard, which is designed to resist impact and is incredibly difficult to break. If this isn’t enough, you can upgrade the glazing with a laminated specification. The glass won’t shatter and will instead hold together like a car windshield does.
The middle point isn’t a weakness either. For one thing, the aluminium is inherently tough and it would take more than a determined kick to force the doors open. The doors are equipped with a multi-point locking mechanism too, giving superior levels of home security. As for the hinges, they’re fitted with nonremovable pins, so there’s no chance of anyone using them to take the doors down.
Here at AluFold, we take the safety of our customers seriously. We are a proud member of Secured By Design (SBD), a national police initiative that helps to ‘design out’ crime through the use of high-quality products and processes. All of our products meet the SBD’s security standards so if you choose to install our French doors, you won’t have to worry about home safety.
